Aftermath by Thai artist Pannaphan Yodmanee is a truly stunning artwork that has been a part of Art Setouchi since 2019.
It spent the past five years in the Fukutake House on Shodoshima (where these pictures were taken and this video was shot). However, it was very recently relocated to no other place than the Benesse House Museum on Naoshima where it’s part of a temporary exhibit of female Asian artists. It should be there until January 2025. After that, I don’t know, but I hope it’ll return to its home on Shodoshima.
I don’t really have much to tell you about it, it’s an artwork you experience and feel, not something you explain. I’m not sure how it “feels” in a museum as opposed to occupying an entire room. Tell me if you get to see it before me on Naoshima (I doubt I’ll go during the summer, I’ll wait until it’s cooler and with fewer people).
