Takeshi Kawashima has been a staple of the Setouchi Triennale since its beginnings in 2010 and it’s more than justified. He’s probably one of the most important artists to come out of Takamatsu. And in case you’re wondering, yes, he’s still producing art at the amazing age of 92 years old as I’m typing these lines! You can follow him on Instagram to see him at work. And you can visit his private museum too.
However, Dancing in the Seto, his “new” artwork in his Dream Friends Gallery on Ogijima this year is not exactly new. It is a reinstallation that he did with the help of his Dream Friends of some art that he created when he lived in New York and that is a part of his “Blue and White” series. And it’s great to be able to enjoy it on my favorite island.
