I had never been to Ritsurin Garden in winter before. That changed on January 1st as it was the destination of our first outing of the year.
It may not come as a surprise that it is probably not the best time of the year to discover the garden for the first time (no flowers, not many leaves, it’s cold, the light is not the best except maybe early in the morning). However, the garden was designed to be beautiful all year long, and indeed it is, even in winter.

Very beautiful. I love visiting Kenrokuen in Kanazawa during the winter. There is not as much colour as say spring or autumn but it is truly beautiful with a bit of white snow on the ground.
I’d love to see the Ritsurin under the snow. Last year, every time it snowed it was during a weekday and I was at work, let’s hope I’ll have more luck this year (well, actually I hope it won’t snow at all – too late a few flakes fell last week – but if it has to snow, it’d better be on a day when I can go to Ritsurin)
